In Creative Corner, poetry

I’ve got a story to tell.
I’d pour it through my black lips,
I’d pour it as gently as it fell from my father’s
Like petals falling off the tree.

O child, come here and listen.
Beneath your feet lies the land your fathers
Fought on with blood, guns, and loss
For independence and freedom.

Listen carefully, and you’ll hear,
In the air still lies the cries of their toils,
Still lies the shouts.
Let not our labour be in vain.

Come child, hear of my time.
2020 when men in black struck men in dreads;
Our only crime; we drove a car.

I remember we had a terrifying visitor
That shook the world and shut all doors
Leaving us with covered noses and naked fears.

Come now, child.
You should leave and come again tomorrow,
The day has retired, and so should I
To the dreams I still have of the future.
