Writers Space Africa (Ghana), a chapter of the Writers Space Foundation, has published a biannual magazine called Awens3m, which literally translates as ‘woven words.’ Ghana is one of the most exciting countries in the world, with rich traditions and stories that need to be told. Its vibrant writers are poised to take the lead to write for and about Ghana. Given this, WSA-Ghana deemed it necessary to publish a magazine that will house literary pieces from Ghanaian writers all across the country.
Speaking on this feat, the Country Coordinator for WSA-Ghana, Joseph Oduro says, “oral literature has been the medium for passing on the key elements and stories of our culture as Africans. This paves the way for others to form prejudices against our culture and people. It is time that African stories be told by ourselves, and it is also imperative that the thoughts, experiences, and traditions that form our identity as a people be written to avoid future obliteration of our cultural values and identity.”
Members of WSA-Ghana can attest to how fast the literary space in Ghana, and the world at large, is growing. As such, it is imperative to put in place measures that will make writing easier and all the more attractive for writers and for those who desire to learn to write. Publishing Awens3m will empower writers and provide readers with appealing varieties.
The Chief Editor of the Awens3m, Efua Eshun, is confident about its outlook. She Says, “Awens3m will serve as a platform which spotlights literary works from Ghana, and it has come to stay.” Writers Space Africa-Ghana calls on writers all over the country to answer the call to submit their beautiful entries to Awens3m magazine whenever they come across its calls for submissions. The magazine accepts submissions from only Ghanaian writers and will be published twice yearly at www.writersspace.net/ghana.
