Trapped inside a rib cage,
Lies a heart pumping blood to the entire population,
Cells, red, black, and white awaiting the supply,
Working through the night and the twilight,
A sick day would be a massacre,
Pumping through each street and capillary,
No mercy for the machinery,
Yet you’ve never skipped a beat,
The magnitude of your presence bears no weight,
Until the day you stop and stand still,
And supply to your own soul,
A soul carried through life by a
Chocolate brown vessel that is a territory,
With mountains, hills, and valleys,
Forests and alleys,
A public attraction,
Or a field of attack,
Claimed by everyone except herself,
Told exactly what to and what not to do,
They’ve hiked up and down,
Cut down her self esteem,
And burnt her to the ground,
Yet every time she rises from the ashes,
Stronger, wiser, graceful; drinking a lemonade on the rocks.
