We wish to welcome Comfort Nyati, as the new Chief Editor for the Writers Space Africa (WSA) Magazine. Comfort is a Zimbabwean national and belongs to the Salesians of Don Bosco, a Catholic religious congregation. He holds a BA in Philosophy and Education and MA in Philosophy. In his MA thesis, he undertook a philosophical enterprise centred on the Hermeneutics of Language. Currently, he is based in Lusaka, Zambia, at the Salesian Post-Novitiate where he also lectures Philosophy at St. Bonaventure University.
Before this appointment, Comfort served as one of the poetry editors for the 5th Cycle of the WSA magazine from January until December 2021. He also served as a co-judge in the poetry category of the 2021 African Writers Awards held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He has reviewed and written several articles and poems which have been featured on several platforms; including The Salesian Newslink, WSA magazine, Kiliviews, The shallow tales review, Heart Links, and World on the Brinks. He has also published a Poetry Anthology titled Seasonal Piety.
Comfort enjoys reading and writing philosophical articles and poems in his spare time on the principal issues surrounding mother Africa. This is in line with the scope of WSA which is to project Africa and Africans to the world. WSA is guided by the Ubuntu philosophy which means that we cherish and value human dignity in all our publications. It also means that we can only thrive as a magazine or a community if we build others. This is why it is said – ‘I am because we are’.
The editorial team of the Writers Space Africa Magazine is bounded by the philosophy of ‘Twaweza’. We believe that as long as we are together – with a uniform goal and ideal – we can achieve anything. Comfort asserts, “taking the magazine a step further remains a living dream. We shall chase and execute the dream on the ground of professionalism and credibility. It is the collective effort that matters the most. I believe that with the excellent team of editors at WSA, we shall walk the mile driven by the philosophy of Ubuntu and the spirit of Twaweza. This will aid the magazine not only to grow in readership and popularity but also help writers and readers to reinforce the potential capacity of African literary creativity.”
Comfort takes over from Neo SpacePoet Masetlane from Botswana who was the Acting Chief Editor For 6 Months after the demise of Namwaja Margaret Chikwabi in June 2021 in Zambia, her home country, after a brief illness. Others who have served as Chief Editors are; Nabilah Usman, Sandra Oma Etubiebi, +Wakini Kuria, Dumebi Okolo and Anthony Onugba.
We thank all those who have served on the WSA editorial board and we wish the editorial team for the 6th cycle, all the best.
